Success Stories Defined
Adama Kai of Aschobi Shop is the first featured success story. The success stories section shall feature rising stars of the Diaspora that have taken the leap of courage to move back home. Our goal is to present their trials and triumphs as they live their dreams in Sierra Leone. The hope is that this shall serve as a source of inspiration to Sierra Leoneans at home and in the Diaspora.

Our goal to Africanize the fashion industry began when Creative Director and Chief Designer, Adama Kai gave birth to African Fashion revolution-Aschobi Designs. By revolution we mean positive change, removing African Fashion from exotic to everyday, while continuing the legacy of African Couture.

Aschobi Designs provides its clientele with a unique blend of exquisite attire that can be worn everyday, from the office,to a formal evening event, or simply to lounge or on a date. Simply put Aschobi Designs is a lifestyle. From its unique blend of textiles and embroideries, to shows stopping design, it complements the individual that has a sense of style that does not want to be kept in a box. Aschobi Designs exudes confidence, innovation, attitude, independence, and self-worth to and for its clients. The Aschobi client will personify all these values as they wear the clothes!

ASCHOBI is a play on the spelling of the Yoruba word "Aso ebi". It is a concept that is practiced through out the West African region. For any particular event or any particular gathering in which a group of individuals want to be identified as a unit they will choose to wear the same material sometimes in the same style. To be exclusive but at the same time inclusive.

When most people think of Sierra Leone they associate it with blood diamonds, war and poor human development. While these images reflect remnants form from a not so distant past, these images do not tell the complete story of Sierra Leone and its people.

As a graduate of Parsons School of Design, Paris Adama Kai could have launched Aschobi Designs from many places but she choseher ancestral home Sierra Leone, West Africa as the birth place of Aschobi because of her unshakeable conviction in the rebirthand redevelopment of her country.

In its 6 months of production, Aschobi has caught the eye and interest of several national and international press outlet including Premier Media, Peep SL, MTV base, South African MNET Studio 53, the Huffing ton Post, U.A.E first English Paper

The National and the BBC’s Outlook Program while interviews with Reuters and National Public Radio (NPR) and Marie Claire are in the works. Also several retail boutiques in the US & UK have expressed an interest in retailing our designs in their shops.

In hopes of tackling the challenges of both creating and competing with global standards and demands and at the same time changing the way African design and textiles are viewed Aschobi has moved to the next level and is managed as a joint venture by a team of young Sierra Leonean professionals from diverse academic backgrounds in education, public relations, marketing, finance and international diplomacy.

The initial collection HAWA-MUSU is a celebration of the career minded African woman who balances family, community, and workobligations with grace, elegance, and beauty. Stay tuned for our 2008 "She Go Say I Be Lady".

Aschobi Designs is inspired by the complexity that occurs when tradition meets, contemporary when the same fabric used as a "lappa"n the market can be transformed into a chic cocktail dress. Aschobi Designs uses fashion to re-brand the shattered image of SierraLeone, as well as provide employment and training to tailors.
