The Directorate of Diaspora Affairs Welcomes the Appointment of SIX Consultants to Kick Start a Culture of Ownership |
|
Freetown 10Th July 2009–The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the National Commission for Privatization (NCP) and the Office of Diaspora Affairs (ODA) have been working diligently in a collaboration to recruit, select and acknowledge provision for technical support to a group of Sierra Leoneans to spear head the Direct Expatriate National Investment (DENI) Project.
DENI Sierra Leone is a poverty reduction initiative designed to mobilize expatriate Sierra Leoneans to pool their resources for outright purchase of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) slated for privatization. Inevitably this will result in widespread ownership of these assets by our own Sierra Leonean brothers and sisters who will reinvest their dividend earnings towards economic stimulation. To ensure this happens, the SIX consultants will carry out due-diligence on the SOEs from mid July prior to the launch of DENI later this year. On June 25th, Hon. Joseph Koroma, Minister of Presidential and Public Affairs approved the appointment of Mr. Joseph Demby as Transaction Adviser/Acquisition Expert who will head the team; the author of the DENI concept, Mr. Frederick Kwoba was appointed Technical Director; Mr. Amadu Massally as the Accountant; Mr. Len Gordon-Harris is the corporate legal specialist; Ms. Agatha is the Global Coordinator and Ms. Shirlene Carew is the Junior Financial Analyst in the office of Diaspora Affairs.
